Teak Case Study Part Four (23/11/2017)

Teak’s Update

Current Gestation: 310 days
Notable Changes:
Teak’s udder is continuing to develop. While there’s not as much change as we saw between last week and the week before, the udder is still definitely continuing to fill. Because Teak has had two foals already I would imagine that she would develop a relatively decent sized udder and more than likely get noticeable wax. That being said it has been a slightly odd year in New Zealand this year with mares bucking the trend and not showing normal signs or sticking to their normal gestation periods.

There were no notable changes in Teak behaviourally or any noticeable changes in her vulva. Her stomach does appear to be dropping a little. At 270 days the average Thoroughbred sized foal is around the size of a German Shepherd. At 320 days the foal is close to the size it will be at birth. The last couple of weeks are spent ‘finishing off’ the foal, rather than growing it, so at this stage Teak’s foal is almost fully grown.

***Teak was inseminated on 17th January 2017 using one dose (8 straws) of imported frozen semen. She was confirmed 18 days in foal on 4th February 2017. Based on the average gestation of 330 – 345 days, Teak’s expected due date would be anywhere from 13th December – 25th December 2017***
