Teak Case Study Part Seven (14/12/2017)

Teak’s Update

Current Gestation: 331 days
Notable Changes:
Teak’s udder is continuing to develop and is noticeably fuller on her off (right) side than her near (left) side. We intended to test with pH strips this week however had the wrong strips so will be doing this early next week! Teak’s milk is still very thin and almost see through, I would expect it to become thicker and stickier as she gets closer to foaling and her colostrum comes down.

Other than continuing development of the udder there were no obvious changes in Teak this week. However her owner has mentioned that she has been a little more grumpy/flighty/intolerant over the last few days.

The alarm Teak will be getting put on is called Equifone, and the Equifone will be sending notifications to mine and her owners’ phone if she is lying down. The alarm will be put on at the beginning of next week (around December 18th). As mentioned she is 331 days and based on the information we have about her last foals her previous gestation lengths would put her foaling around Wednesday 20th – Friday 22nd December.

Once Teak develops wax I will be sleeping out at her owners house and putting the FoalApp alarm on her as well.

***Teak was inseminated on 17th January 2017 using one dose (8 straws) of imported frozen semen. She was confirmed 18 days in foal on 4th February 2017. Based on the average gestation of 330 – 345 days, Teak’s expected due date would be anywhere from 13th December – 25th December 2017***
